How does FlowSimp compare with Visio?
Visio is the tool you use when the file format and the stencil set matter. FlowSimp is the tool you use when you want a flowchart in a browser tab without installing an application or creating an account. Paid Visio plans exist. Their prices change, so they are not listed here.
| FlowSimp | Microsoft Visio | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A browser flowchart maker and whiteboard | A Microsoft diagram app, on the desktop and the web |
| Getting started | Completely free to use — no sign-up required | Editing is part of Microsoft’s Visio offering |
| Install | None | A desktop app, or Visio for the web |
| Files | PNG, SVG, and a share link | .vsdx and related Visio files |
| Shapes | Flowchart shapes, a small network set, and a pen | Large stencil sets, including floor plans and engineering |
| Account | Optional. Guest diagrams stay in the browser | A Microsoft account is part of using Visio |
The same comparison, in shorter form, is on FlowSimp vs Visio. The rest of the set is on alternatives.

How do you switch a flowchart to FlowSimp?
- Leave the .vsdx file where it is. FlowSimp cannot open it, and it cannot write one back.
- Copy the steps into a list, or into a Mermaid flowchart if you already have that text. Paste it on text to flowchart.
- Or start from a template, such as the expense process or the org chart, and replace the sample words.
- Export PNG or SVG for a document. Use a read-only share link when someone only needs to view the diagram.
What should you not expect?
Do not expect Visio stencils, floor plans, or a round trip through .vsdx. FlowSimp’s flowchart shapes are rectangle, rounded rectangle, diamond, and circle. Network mode adds a router, switch, server, firewall, cloud, and workstation. That is the set. If the drawing depends on a Visio stencil, keep it in Visio.
